Lago della Stua, a reservoir fed by a tributary of the Piave River, the Caorame, is set in one of the many jewels of the Feltre Dolomites: the Val Canzoi.
On the threshold of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park, between Feltre and Cesiomaggiore, the lake offers a spectacle of great suggestion, almost cartolinesque in its perfect adherence to an imagery that sees the mountains as the realm of silence, of nature, of unspoiled landscapes; where only a few cottages here and there, a few rare bridges and the large dam remind us of the presence of man.
Presence otherwise unobtrusive and never invasive.
One path circumnavigates the lake, but there are many others to explore, some, let it be said clearly, for experienced walkers. But as always in such cases, the effort is repaid by the beauty of the landscapes that are gradually discovered and suddenly appear before our eyes.
Gorgeous in autumn, lush in summer, Lago della Stua is one of those must-see destinations that no mountain lover can afford to ignore. A memorable place, a worthy prelude to the noble majesty of the Feltre Dolomites.
