A weekend in Feltre is the minimum time you need to discover the rich historical and artistic heritage of this city that has a troubled past and is often overlooked by tourists attracted by more emblazoned destinations. Our tour guide will take you to discover the historical city founded by the Reti with the name of Feltria, which had an important development in Roman times because of its proximity to the Via Claudia Augusta that from Altino, in the Venetian lagoon, arrived in Bavaria. Walking along the streets of Feltre up to the beautiful main square dominated by the Castle of Alboino, just raise your head to see the many Venetian palaces with frescoes, now a bit 'neglected, but that once had to be a wonder of colours that earned Feltre the nickname of the painted city.
The next morning after a hearty breakfast will start the guide of Feltre bike tour will take you to discover the old settlements of smugglers along dirt roads, forest roads and trails with difficulty S0, S1 and S3.
As always, our adventure starts from your hotel or B&B, as soon as we leave the town we take a dirt path that runs along the banks of the river Stizzon, a simple but very fun single track that takes us to the hamlet of Caupo, where the first climb awaits us to reach the district Fumegai.
A few kilometres on asphalt road in the direction of Monte Grappa leads us to take a forest road very nice and easy to ride with a magnificent view of Mount Coppolo, and the Pale di San Martino up to the highest point of our excursion where we descend from the first dirt road and then in a nice path in an almost enchanted Contrada Fumegai.
A group of houses that have been abandoned for decades, the vegetation trying to take back those poor spaces, a grassy path that no one ever travels and the sadness that slowly but surely rises, but always deeper and more pressing.
It's a dive into the history of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, made of poverty and poverty, hard work and minds clouded by wine and smoke, and also minds trained to the intelligence needed for hard survival.
The path takes us above the Corlo lake to the Forzeleta district where a fantastic panorama awaits us, a short technical descent takes us to the path that goes around the lake and where we can have a rest and refreshment before starting the easy but long way back.
